Sundays from 8 May- 12 June, 11am-2pm.

For adults and young people ages 12+

Join animator and illustrator Danny Stanley on a 6-week journey into the art and craft of animation. Students will try their hand at paper-based, stop motion and digital animation, in a course structured around the Fundamentals of Animation; the building blocks of bringing images to life as laid out by the Nine Old Men of Disney and shared by all animators since. Although the course will not delve specifically into creating CGI animation, all of the principles taught will be of great importance to aspiring 3D animators.

Classic and modern cartoons, as well as live action film, will be studied for their character design, storytelling and acting, with attention paid to gathering and creating quality reference material to make the animation process as efficient as possible.

Students will gain skills in:

Story boarding

Gesture (figure) drawing

Storytelling through lighting

Believable illustration

Using smartphones in the animation process

...And general drawing skills

Students will end the course with their own short animation in a medium of their choice, with guidance from the teacher and class.

Materials will be supplied. Prior drawing skill would be helpful, but is not necessary to enjoying and taking benefit from the course.
