Funday Sunday drop in and make batik dyeing with Kelcie Bryant-Duguid
Sunday 25 July from 10.30-3.30. Drop in and make any time in this period
Drop in and make some wonderful fabric art using stamps and other techniques - lead by the amazing fabric artist Kelcie Bryant-Duguid. Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with different dying techniques and material and learn how to produce different results using your own marks.
In this workshop you will create Faux Batik on paper, still using wax as a resist, but instead of hot wax using coloured crayons and white candles. This will cater to all ages and abilities and attention spans. You will use Sumi ink and a large brush to reveal the (until now hidden - if using candle or white crayon) design beneath.
Participants can make several pictures if they like. I have used A4 photocopy paper which works a treat. The beauty of the wax crayon and candle and ink combination is the way the colour breaks over the resist leaving an effect that mimics authentic batik works, especially over blocks of colour. In the samples I have included a few variations which I have outlined for your reference.
