Artist Workshop with Anita Johnson Feltmaking: Make a Lidded Pouch

part of 6TTT NAture Machine

Sunday 20th September 10- 3pm

Esther Halliday Studio

Discover the ancient art of feltmaking in this hands-on workshop with Anita. Used for thousands of years to create functional objects, clothing and shelter, feltmaking is one of the world's oldest textile crafts.

This introductory class focuses on the resist method of feltmaking, where you'll learn how to create a seamless hollow pouch with a lid. Using soft wool fibres, warm soapy water and the movement of your hands, you'll encourage the fibres to migrate and interlock, transforming loose wool into a sturdy, functional vessel.

Throughout the day, Anita will also share insights into the history and principles of feltmaking, offering a deeper understanding of this tactile and rewarding craft.

No prior feltmaking experience is required.
