As part of the 6th Tamworth Textile Triennial, join artist Rebecca Mayo for The Plant Sensibilia Machine, a unique participatory textile and natural dyeing experience that brings the dyeing process out of the studio and into the public realm.

This large-scale, hand-operated machine invites visitors to help rotate lengths of fabric through a plant dye bath. Printed with mordants (metal salts), the cloth gradually absorbs colour released by plants, water and heat, revealing hidden imagery and text over time. As participants turn the handle and engage with the process, they experience the sights, scents and rhythms of natural dyeing firsthand.

Rebecca Mayo's practice responds to the growing issue of "plant blindness" by creating opportunities for people to reconnect with plants, place and the natural world. Through this interactive artwork, audiences are encouraged to consider the relationships between humans, plants and local environments while contributing to a collective creative process.

Suitable for all ages, The Plant Sensibilia Machine offers a hands-on encounter with natural dyes, sustainable textile practices and community participation.
