Introduction to Landscape
4 week short course - Creative Tuesdays
17 February - 10 March 2026
Weekly, Tuesday 4pm - 6pm
Led by artists Tania Hartigan and Charmaine Pike
Discover the richness of Australian landscape painting in this engaging, hands-on short course led by local artists Tania Hartigan and Charmaine Pike.
Designed for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills, this four-week course introduces the fundamentals of landscape painting using acrylics, alongside drawing techniques using charcoal and mixed media. Participants will explore composition, tone, colour theory and a range of practical painting techniques while developing confidence and personal style.
Each session draws inspiration from selected works in the Tamworth Regional Gallery collection, examining different approaches to landscape—from First Nations perspectives to traditional and abstract practices.
You’ll be guided step-by-step, with plenty of individual support, as you create your own finished landscape painting.
Techniques may include:
locking-in, layering, wet-on-wet, dry brushing and glazing.
All materials are supplied, including paints, brushes, canvas and paper.
