Introduction to Landscape - 4 week short course

Come and join us for an enjoyable and hands-on introduction to the vibrant realm of Australian landscapes. If you've always had a desire to learn the art of painting, this workshop is a great starting point.
Led by local landscape painters Tania Hartigan and Charmain Pike participants will study the style of a selected landscape artists from the Gallery collection, and create works informed by their approach.
During this 4 week course, you'll delve into the fundamentals of painting landscapes with acrylics as well as exploring other mediums, such as charcoal drawing. It will cover essential aspects such as composition and colour mixing and application techniques. This will deepen your understanding of techniques and unlock the vast possibilities that acrylic painting offers.
Whether you're a beginner or have previous experience, this workshop aims to boost your confidence in working with acrylics as you embark on a landscape painting journey. Under the guidance of our tutor, you'll receive continuous support while creating your own unique canvas landscape painting.
Some of the following techniques may be covered in the workshop: locking-in, layering, wet-on-wet, dry brushing and glazing.
All the necessary materials; paints and brushes, canvas and paper will be provided in class.

Who is running this workshop?
Tania Hartigan

Tania Hartigan is a Contemporary Visual Artist, a mother to Alice and Robbie, wife to Rodney and a proud Gamilaraay woman with deep connections to Mother Earth.

Charmaine Pike approaches the rich tradition of Australian landscape with a unique language, both of gesture and of sentiment. As has always been the case with her work, the fundamentals of drawing are at its core, with an unerring understanding of tone and confidence of line permeating each painting. Her work has become distilled to a point where forms appear effortlessly carved out of space.
