Curator Led Exhibition: Textiles: Material as Collaborator
part of 6TTT NAture Machine
Sunday 20th September 10- 11am
Gallery 1
Do we consider materials as collaborators or merely resources? Join a curator-led panel discussion featuring exhibiting artists from the 6th Tamworth Textile Triennial, Nature Machine, as they explore the dynamic relationship between makers and the materials they work with.
Drawing on diverse creative practices, panelists will discuss how materials can shape artistic processes, influence decision-making, and generate unexpected outcomes. Many contemporary artists are pushing the boundaries of traditional textile techniques, experimenting with unconventional materials, new technologies, and innovative methods of making. This conversation will examine how these approaches challenge established ideas of authorship, craftsmanship, and material value.
Exploring themes of sustainability, agency, and creative exchange, the panel offers fresh perspectives on the role of materials in contemporary art and invites audiences to reconsider the possibilities that emerge when materials are viewed not simply as resources, but as active collaborators in the creative process.
