The Material Garden Project

A community engagement endeavour that aims to promote social cohesion

The Material Garden Project

Sunday, 24 August, 11am - 1pm

This program will occur monthly

Join us for a creative Sunday at our Regional Gallery's Art Studio. This public program invites individuals and families to be a part of a larger project inspired by artist Hiromi Tango's 'Healing Garden'. Assist Gallery staff and friends in the creation of a textile garden, aimed to promote social cohesion and the beautification of public spaces.

Inspired by the textile practice of Hiromi Tango, which intersects art with health as it explores universal themes of humanity, sustainability, and nature, the creation of the Gallery's own Material Garden will be largely inspired by the natural forms found within the New England region. With a focus on the healing possibilities of art particularly through meditative practices, this project aims to promote mindfulness, contemplation and reconnection with the environment, as participants create small-scale sculptures from soft materials to add to a collective whole.
