Stuart Boggs: GLIMPSES
3 December 2016 to 14 January 2017
‘The more that I paint and play with the landscape, the more I realise how my geological background has influenced the way I paint … geology being the palette of all landscapes.’ -Stuart Boggs
This exhibition presents works inspired by the landscapes in Stuart Boggs’s immediate environment – namely, the gorge country around Armidale, especially Dangars Falls – as well as by coastal landforms and, more recently, the Gloucester.
These paintings are in reality, glimpses of the landscape which have been captured in the artist's travels around the New England.
The images may come from his sketching all day at a particular site or they might be a momentary view out the car window. Some paintings in the exhibition are a more realistic interpretation whereas some become overviews of particular events and are more abstracted.
An opening address for this exhibition will be conducted by Angus Nivison, Friday 9 December at 6pm.
Stuart is represented by Gallery 126, Armidale.
