First Nations Voices Take Centre Stage in Tamworth

Yaama Guduu, Greetings Murray Cod is a powerful weekend celebration of First Nations music, art, and community in the heart of Tamworth - A free community event celebrating the end of the Murray Cod breeding season and the closing weekend of the exhibition Bush Lines at Tamworth Regional Gallery.
This closing weekend transforms Tamworth into a vibrant hub of cultural exchange — amplifying First Nations voices and fostering creative connection across generations and art forms.
Presented in partnership with Tamworth Regional Gallery, Tamworth Council, and Awesome Black, and supported by the Office of the 24 Hour Economy, this special three-day activation (28–30 November) invites audiences to gather, create, and celebrate through a series of free performances, talks and workshops.
A Weekend of Art, Music and Connection
The Bush Lines activation unfolds across key local sites:
- Tamworth Regional Gallery – Local students will participate in workshops with Sue Ryan creating their own sculptures and contributing to the giant Murray Cod work.
- Fitzroy Plaza Drop-in Workshops Saturday 29 November 9.00am to 12.00pm & Sunday 30 November 10.00am - 12.00pm Take part in the Ghost Nets Community Sculpture Project led by featured artist Sue Ryan (QLD), culminating in the creation of a striking giant Murray cod sculpture which will join the Gallery’s exhibition collection.
- Tamworth Regional Gallery Saturday 29 November 1.30pm - 3:15pm & Sunday 30 November 2.00pm - 3.00pm – A place to slow down, listen and create. Visitors can experience acoustic sets, artist and curator talks to enhance the exhibition.
- DJ workshops - Local youth will have the opportunity to participate in production and DJ workshops culminate in live performance opportunities. Come and see them in Fitzroy Plaza!
- Fitzroy Plaza Saturday 29 November 6:00pm- 9.00pm & Sunday 30 November 5.00pm - 8.00pm – A public live music stage featuring performances by celebrated and emerging First Nations artists including Buddy Knox (Tamworth), Jayden Kitchener-Waters (Tamworth), Bow and Arrow (Sydney), Dyagula (Sydney), local youth DJs, and many more.
