This plein air workshop is a hands-on art class where participants paint outdoors - at the Tamworth Bicentennial Park, taking inspiration directly from nature. Michelle will provides an overview of her practice, en plein air painting techniques, and what to look for in the landscape to create a sense of place.
Participants learn about the essential tools, paints, and easels required for en plein air painting. Michelle will demonstrate how to create an outdoor painting set-up and make the most of climatic conditions, followed by sketching before painting techniques and demonstrations
The term "en plein air" is French for "in the open air," and this practice is favored for its ability to capture the natural light, colors, and atmosphere of a scene.

Esther Halliday Studio, Tamworth Regional Gallery
The second part of the workshop is held in the studio. Michelle will assist artists to use their observations form nature into more complete artworks in the Esther Halliday Studio. Michelle will share her techniques to capture colours, textures, and lighting of the Australian landscape and provides one-on-one guidance, addressing specific challenges and helping participants refine their artistic styles.

This workshop will have a maximum of 12 participants

Cost: $150. Includes all workshop materials and tutoring.
Michelle Hungerford Biography
Michelle Hungerford – born in Sydney Australia 1960.
Michelle Hungerford is a full-time practicing artist who lives and works in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. Landscapes are her preferred genre and she is inspired by the New England region. Michelle commenced her formal Art Education in 1987 when she enrolled in a Fine Arts course at Tamworth TAFE. Later, she returned to study and in 2003 graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) and was the recipient of the University Medal.
In 2006 Michelle held her first international solo show at New Hall, Cambridge University and in 2009, she had her second solo show at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge UK. In 2016 she was one of three Australian artists in a show titled ‘Von A nach B’ at the Australian Embassy in Berlin, Germany.
Michelle has also exhibited widely in Regional and Commercial galleries and has been a finalist in many art prizes including Country Energy Art Prize for Landscape Painting, Norville Art Prize, Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize, Mosman Art Prize and the Gallipoli Art Prize. In 2018 she was the winner of the Defiance Gallery Award, Paddington Art Show. Michelle’s work is held in many private and public collections in, Australia, UK, Europe and America.
