Join regional artist Peter Toth in a unique two-session workshop exploring the art of brush making and its use in calligraphy.
Session 1: Learn the traditional techniques of crafting calligraphy brushes using horsehair and bamboo.
Peter will guide you step-by-step through the process, combining artistry and practicality to create your very own brush.
Session 2: Discover how to use your handcrafted brush with ink as Peter demonstrates traditional calligraphy techniques.
Experiment and bring your own creative process to life.
Peter Toth, a multi-disciplined ceramic artist renowned for his innovative sculptural forms, brings decades of experience and artistic exploration to this brush-making workshop. With a formal education that began at Box Hill Technical College, where he earned a Certificate in Applied Arts specializing in ceramics, and an Associate Diploma of Art and Design majoring in Finished Art Ceramics,
Peter’s foundation combines technical expertise with imaginative creativity.
Peter’s works have been acquired by institutions such as Box Hill TAFE and Box Hill Council, as well as international collectors in Japan, and are featured in numerous private collections. His artistic journey has included showcasing his ceramics in group and solo exhibitions across Melbourne’s art centers and galleries, with recent features at Weswal Gallery and Tamworth Regional Gallery.
In this workshop, Peter shares his passion for craftsmanship by guiding participants through the art of brush making, an essential yet often overlooked tool in creative practices. Participants will learn how to construct custom brushes using traditional and contemporary techniques, combining functionality with artistic expression, much like Peter does in his own work.
