Spring School Holiday Art Workshops at The Gallery
Puppet construction and animation with Daniel Elliott
Monday 1 October
Join Daniel Elliott for a fun and engaging introduction to stop motion animation, where kids can learn the fundamentals of storytelling and animation using items and tools found in the average home. Daniel is an experienced animator and filmmaker, having his work shown in many film festivals and projected as public art both in Australia and abroad. Using charcoal and paper, students will learn how to develop their own characters, develop their own stories, learn the fundamentals of stop motion animation, and most importantly, discover that the only skill you really need for animation is patience.

Artist Bio
Daniel Elliott is a multidisciplinary artist from the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia, currently residing in the New England region.
His work is driven by a fascination with the mundane, the weird, and the past. After wrapping up high school in the early 2000’s Daniel immediately found himself falling into the world of the advertising industry thanks to his knowledge of the Macromedia Flash software (now Adobe Animate), a program he only had experience with due to his making of animated cartoons in his free time… and when he was supposed to be in class. This took him on a journey over the following decades, working around Australia, and as far away as Canada, working on projects for the likes of Coca-Cola, Google and Netflix.
After returning to Australia in 2017, Daniel made the choice to leave the big cities and big brands behind him in favor of smaller and more intimate projects where he could exert more creative control and experiment more with different media formats such as video and photography. With a great love of the tactile presentation of media from the 70s and 80s, both animated and live action, Daniel strives to bring a level of grit and imperfection to his work you don’t often find in the increasingly clean digital media landscape, with the belief that hand crafted imperfection has more value now than ever."
