Featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the art-making component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts in 2023, ARTEXPRESS 2024 provides insight into students’ creativity and the issues important to them.

This exhibition is a conversation across time. The multi-disciplinary works of mother and daughter Heather and Kate Dorrough explore the nexus between the arts and crafts movements, female creative lineage, body and landscape, river and fertility, and environmental issues and activism.
Budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 are invited to submit a portrait for the Young Archie competition, as part of our family-focused activities for the Archibald Prize 2023 regional tour. The portrait should be of a person who is special to you - someone who is known to you and plays a significant role in your life. A4 or A3 works on paper - prizes offered by both AGNSW and The University of New England.

The annual Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW, the prize is awarded to the best portrait painting. Since 1921, it has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting back to us the stories of our times.
